We’ve got around 20 North American style tipis made of cotton canvas on a framework of wooden lodge poles, bound with twine and hessian rope. These majestic structures reach up to more than 18 feet high, giving you a generous living area. Compared to an ordinary tent, a tipi interior gives you an amazing sense of space and light.
Each tipi is fitted with an external hat or interior lining to keep out the rain - although in bad conditions (driving rain, severe winds etc) we cannot guarantee that any canvas structure will be completely weather or wildlife proof. Drips, leaks, muddy doorways etc are all part of camping in a typical British summer - it's why the Cornish countryside is so beautifully green! Please bear this in mind before booking with us - especially if you think a hotel or B&B might suit you better. Fair weather camping cannot be guaranteed.
All the tipis are equipped with the basics you might need for your visit, custom-made groundsheets (just so you know, these aren't attached to the main canvas as tipis aren't manufactured as sealed units like modern tents, so sometimes you get gaps!), warm Turkish rugs and fairy lights or mini-festoons. But this is real camping - so no beds! You bring your own bedding and you might like to bring an airbed or camping mattress if you prefer things more cosy. Tipis in the Top Village Field are left plain for you to add a nice comfy airbed or similar for your tipi adventure. With our lovely onsite cafe (open in mid and peak season only) you shouldn't need much else! If you would prefer to add in some kitchen kit, you can do this at time of booking.
When it comes to the Private Site tipis, you’ll get your own camping mats, camp stove and cool box. We also provide kitchen essentials from teaspoons to teapot – with a full inventory sent to you on completion of your booking. And of course you’ll be welcome to use our pots and pans on your outside fire.
Our tipis come in two sizes, medium & large.
The medium tipi will sleep 2 adults comfortably or two adults and up to two young children but if you're bringing a travel cot we advise booking a large tipi.
The large tipi will sleep 4-5 adults comfortably and 4-6 if at least one is a child but to comply with Health & Safety requirements we cannot allow any more than 6, including babies.
There are 11 tipis in the Village Field, and the rest on Private Sites situated singly or doubly in private clearings. Private sites have their own area bordered by trees and hedges. Although private the sites are sometimes quite close to others and you'll usually see the tops of tipis nearby and hear your neighbours’ voices.
