Our new dedicated weddings website is now available - full of information and lovely photographs - and can be seen by going to www.cornishtipiweddings.co.uk
If you’re planning one of the most important days of your life and feel you want something more than the usual church/registry office and back to the conventional overblown hotel then we could be your answer. Whether you’re arranging an old fashioned wedding or modern civil partnership we know we can help.
We didn’t set out to be wedding planners, but have found that the beauty and privacy of our site has started to attract couples who want something genuinely different for their big day.
You might be drawn to a vision of a fairy glade; the sparkly slippered bride and beaming groom exchanging vows by a mighty oak before you, and all your guests, embark on a processional past stream and hedgerow, accompanied by flute and fiddle.
Little children clutching posies skip alongside, as you make your way to a tented pavilion filled with food and flowers. After the sun goes down, candles in paper lanterns throw soft light across the winding paths leading to a party lit by a thousand fairy lights.
Or you might be stirred by the rise of the eco wedding; thinking sustainably from the beginning, you want to arrange ceremony and reception close to one another to reduce miles travelled, you want shared transport for guests, horse drawn vehicles on site for the wedding party, little ones and older guests.
You might consider Cornish designers for special outfits using recycled or vintage clothing, local suppliers of seasonal food and drink, artisan jewellers working in sustainable and fair traded metal and gems for your rings, and you’re bound to want a low impact environment utilising small amount of resources and renewable technologies.
Why not chuck out the traditional wedding list for presents, and instead ask people to donate to a fund to support people living with cancer in Cornwall, or send money further afield so that the celebration of your marriage results in a new classroom being built for a rural school in India.
Whatever your dreams and inspiration we can help make it the day you want it to be; we can provide tipis large and small, yurts, marquees or geodesic domes. We know set dressers and party makers, celebrants, photographers and puppeteers, storytellers and nannies, interesting caterers and homemade pasty makers, local breweries and organic apple juice crushers. We can get you a Cornish piper or harmonising fishermen, haunting Celtic harp or pulsing didgeridoo. Outside power can produce serious dance, rollicking ceilidh or a tiny pa might be sufficient for an elegant string quartet or gentle acoustic set.
Despite the complexities of wedding venue licencing in the UK we now hold a wedding licence, so couples are now able to marry legally on our site as well as emotionally (see an artist's impression of our lovely new wedding pavilion below)
You can book all or part of the site for more or less of the event; you may want to marry officially in advance or do everything with us – it’s up to you.
We love weddings, and bridal couples love our site. If you’ve got an unsure parent or hesitant best friend, then the best thing to do is come and see us and have a look around. The most traditional are usually converted – it’s too pretty not to!
Every wedding and civil partnership ceremony is different, so each one is costed on an individual basis. As 2010 will be our first full wedding year, we've decided to hold our existing costs from before we had our licence, which should give you a very good deal!
For really intimate weddings (ie those with under 20 guests), costs start at £1500. Weddings with 20-45 guests start at £2500 with celebrations for up to 75, from a minimum of £3500. Larger weddings (150 guests) rise to a baseline of £5000. Big weddings (200+) rise approx £1000 per 50 guests.
This price includes use of designated areas of the site for ceremony, reception, party, car parking, loos and showers, hire of the wedding pavilion, staff time and support in the lead up, during and after the event, coordination and storage of deliveries, set up and clear up, rubbish disposal and recycling, use of the lake, fire pit(s) where appropriate, liaising with external providers of everything from stage design to refrigeration units and much more.
Additional costs might include anything from an aeroplane fly past (less sustainable) to quantities of our own freshly caught trout (much more so), straw bales for outside seating to DJ’s for dancing. Depending on the size of your wedding we may need to hire additional marquee space, geodesic domes etc.
Part of our wedding package also includes the wedding night free for the bride and groom in a 'honeymoon' tipi.
Also a special for 2010, is our discount for all wedding guests staying on site in our tipis of 15% of the overall cost of their booking in mid-season, and a staggering 20% if the wedding is held in low-season.
Special arrangements can always be made for family or friends with specific requirements, such as mobility problems.
It’s worth mentioning that the average lead in time for weddings is now 9-12 months, but many couples choose a timescale of 18 months or more which means we get booked really far ahead at certain times. Whatever your choices, it’s all in the planning, and we’re always excited to be involved with you throughout your big project.
